Hi, I’m Josie. I decided to become an esthetician, because I was always confused about skincare. I wanted to have great skin, but didn’t know where to start and I felt overwhelmed by all the information out there! So I decided to start a blog to help y’all understand skincare and your skin.

Is Microcurrent Right For You?

There are so many new facial machines on the market, one that is popular right now is the microcurrent device. However, is this device right for you? In this article we are going to discuss what it does, and how you can decide if it’s right for you.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

So how does this machine work? It uses microcurrents or wave therapy to mimic the way the brain relays messages to the muscles. This therapy is being used by the medical field to heal muscles and wounds, controlling pain and even fusing bones. This is also being used in the skincare field and that is what we are going to talk about here.

These electrical impulses can improve facial skin tone and muscles. As we age our impulses in the skin slow down causing the skin to sag. For example when we open our mouthes, the muscles that normally hold up our jowls stop contracting back, this causes a droopy look on the face. The microcurrent device gives the muscles little shocks to tone and stimulate facial muscles, it also is thought to improve blood and lymph circulation and can also assist with product absorption.

HOW TO PROPERLY USE THE DEVICE

You should use this device with a conducting gel, refer to the the manufactures instructions to see which conducting gel works best. If you don’t use a conducting gel, you will get shocked and the treatment can be very uncomfortable. This gel also insures that the device can smoothly glide up the face and there is no tugging on the skin. The movements should be specific to the manufacturers instructions. The effectiveness depends on the correct position and understanding where the muscle is located. Improper placement could result in no improvement. You also want to slowly move the machine up the muscle and hold until you hear the beep, repeat each movement about 2-4 times on the same spot. Always start at the lowest setting and build your tolerance up as you slowly increase the intensity. An entire facial session should take about 5 minutes and no longer.

IS THIS TREATMENT RIGHT FOR YOU?

You do not want to use this device if you have muscular diseases, advanced diabetes, pacemakers, epilepsy, cancer, pregnancy, and hemophilia. If you have just had injectables wait two weeks after the injection procedure. You also do not want to use it if you have braces or any metal in your mouth.

So is this treatment right for you? Well a lot depends on how consistently you use this facial device. Remember, this device is exercising your muscles, and just like exercise, if you stop doing it or are irregular with it, you won’t see results!

Below I have attached my personal results with my nuface microcurrent machine. These are horrible pictures of me, but I was shocked to see how it had helped my jowls to look more lifted. It also helped my skin’s overall texture. During this time period I was not doing any other skin treatments, just my normal face wash and moisturizer routine with this device once a day for five minutes. These pictures had been taken about a month apart.

  1. Lymphatic Drainage Facial, Why You Need One. – Glow by Jo Skin Studio Avatar

[…] Lymphatic drainage on the face can be performed through many different methods. One very common way is through massage. A lymphatic massage performed correctly will manually remove the fluids from your face. Another way is to use some sort of suction cup there are suction cups or suction machines sold online that will assist in the drainage of the face. (be more careful with these methods, because they can cause bruising more easily.) A very popular method used now is the gua sha or jade rollers. Microcurrent devices are also said to improve the lymphatic drainage. For more information on this read my article on, “Is Microcurrent Right For You?“ […]
